As with many treatments in dentistry, one of the first questions people ask is, how much – ‘veneers cost the UK’ is undoubtedly a hot topic? However, this question is far too simple, and it would be very much like saying “How much is a car?”… The answer will always depend; it depends on what you want it to do, what the requirements are, and what your budget is! So let’s undertake an investigation into teeth veneers, look at some of the options and the cost in the UK.
Throughout the post, we will look at three different types of veneer:
- Clip-in veneers, sometimes known as secret veneers.
- Composite veneers, sometimes known as immediate veneers.
- Porcelain veneers.
What’s a veneer?
In is very simplest form a tooth veneer is a shell like layer which is placed over the surface of the tooth. Regular dental veneers are made as individual teeth and bonded to your natural tooth, click on veneers are usually made all as one, with all of the teeth joined together and they are not bonded permanently to your natural teeth.
Clip on veneers
These types of veneers are manufactured as a single block of tooth coloured plastic. They click in over the top of your natural teeth.
One of the biggest problems is that the ability to correct misshapen or crooked teeth is challenging with this type of clip in secret veneer, as you can see from the video above. People look for cheap veneers, find one of these manufacturers online and end up with results that are far from perfect.
BUT the biggest problem with these is often overlooked. While they may not look great, this is one of the more minor issues. These clip-in veneer systems can damage the delicate gums by rubbing on them, causing inflammation. This inflammation of the gums can then lead to bone loss, which if left to its logical conclusion can also result in tooth loss.
If people are then tempted to wear these veneers too often, their oral health also becomes compromised. The veneers hold the harmful bacteria against the teeth giving the bacteria ample opportunity to excrete the acid over the teeth and cause extensive tooth decay. This type of cosmetic dentistry still requires excellent oral hygiene to ensure that this type of problem doesn’t begin.
The cost of this type of click in veneer is often around £250 for either the top or the bottom, and this is why it has become incredibly popular with people looking for cheap dental veneers and cosmetic dentistry, however, they may be storing up more dental problems than they realise!
Composite veneers are a thin layer of tooth-coloured composite resin which are usually bonded directly to the surface of your teeth. This type of immediate veneer are used to straighten crooked teeth, rebuild chipped or broken down teeth and cover over small pits or holes in the surface of your teeth.
One of the most significant advantages of this type of composite veneer is that they are immediate, you can arrive at the dentist, have your treatment and then leave with a brand new look and brighter smile.
Treatment times for composite veneers vary, depending upon the complexity of the treatment. Sometimes natural tooth structure is removed to make way for the composite resin, and this is particularly true if you have a tooth which sticks out a lot.
The cost of these veneers also varies depending on the size, sometimes only a small amount of composite resin is added to cover a hole in the tooth or restore a chipped tooth, the price of this is often from £90. To cover a complete tooth will be more than this.
Of all the types of veneer, these are usually the most expensive at around £500 per tooth; however they come with a whole range of advantages:
- Porcelain veneers are permanent. Because they are permanently bonded to your teeth, there is no chance of them causing problems to the gums (such as with clip-in veneers).
- Being made of porcelain, they last the longest amount of time, typically around ten years. Composite veneers tend to fade and wear away after approximately 5 to 7 years and click in veneers can last even less time than this, especially if you wear them lots.
- Ceramic porcelain veneers are designed to be used 24 hours a day. It doesn’t matter when you go out, your veneers are always with you, unlike click in veneers where you have to ensure you carry the veneers around and click them in before you go out.
- Infinitely customisable. Because the ceramic veneers are handmade by a highly skilled dental technician, they can be completely customised in terms of shape and colour, you can have the match your existing teeth or have a much brighter, depending on the result you wish to achieve. This can be great for achieving those Hollywood smiles.
- Completely stain resistant. Composite veneers (and click in veneers especially) can stain with strong other foods such as turmeric, red wine, tea and coffee. In fact, you shouldn’t be eating or drinking with clip-in veneers at all. Porcelain veneers are utterly impervious to any of these stains.
- Totally natural appearance. Because the underlying tooth does not compromise the veneers as with clip-in veneers, they are made to look completely natural without looking too big or false.
What are the other options?
Dental veneers or often used to realign teeth, rebuild broken down teeth, whiten teeth and generally restore your smile – there are other ways to do this too:
- realigning teeth can be done with orthodontics
- restoring broken down teeth can be done with composite bonding and in extreme circumstances, dental crowns
- whitening teeth can be done with teeth whitening
This is why an excellent cosmetic dentist near you will take a holistic approach to dental veneers, examining what you want them for and what results you want to achieve, and then ensuring you have the best treatment, tailored exclusively for you.
Are veneers worth it
Dental veneers can definitely be worth it, the investment is often around £500 per tooth, but this can usually be financed over an extended period bringing the cost down to unaffordable monthly amount. The benefits of dental veneers include being able to smile confidently, eat and chew the foods you want to and generally enjoy a brighter, whiter and more appealing smile. All without having to take those teeth out at the end of the night, as happens with clip in veneers!

Transform your smile
Veneers are most often applied to chipped, stained, or misaligned teeth, and while alternative methods are on offer at Aesthetic Smiles near Humberstone to help you address such issues, veneers are often the simplest, most affordable, and most straightforward technique available. While other methods offer their own distinctive benefits, Veneers are virtually unparalleled in the realm of convenience and affordability.
The main benefit to using veneers is cosmetic as they help to create a brighter, whiter finish to your teeth. That being said they can also provide a straighter appearance to your teeth where applied correctly. In some cases veneers are offered or taken up after an orthodontic realignment of teeth, for instance after Invisalign treatment or the use of the Inman Aligner.
Where the orthodontic corrections needed are only minor, veneers can be used to effectively conceal small spaces or gaps.
Create a dazzling new smile
Each set of veneers is developed to a person’s individual needs. Each set of veneers is then applied to teeth through a dental bonding medium which will safely adhere the veneers to their respective teeth. Your Aesthetic Smiles dentist will talk to you about what you hope to get out of your veneers to ensure that your veneers meet your requirements and expectations. Each set can vary in their size and thickness, as well as in their colouring and contours. This level of flexibility ensures that you get the look and finish that you want for a smile that boosts your confidence.
